For us Meniere's warriors, we have big dreams of getting back to our normal self, and we have big dragons to slay.
You've probably been hearing a lot about New Year's resolutions lately, and you may have some written down yourself.
Some people say resolutions don't work, and some people say that you're lazy if you don't have them.
So I want to give you my two cents, so that you can move toward feeling better faster. So that you don't get stymied like the majority of resolution-makers, who will realize this time next year that they haven't improved at all.
A couple of truths about New Years resolutions:
1. Having them doesn't bring them about
2. If you think of each day as a new day and take the right steps, you don't need New Years resolutions.
I like to think of New Years resolutions as a target. After I name the target, I forget about it and focus on performance.
Performance means you focus on developing an affinity for the actions that are required to bring about the target, or the end result.
You don't go around with an "I'm going to lose 20 pounds" mantra, you become the person who enjoys salads more than a hamburger.
Because a person who likes salads doesn't gain weight.
It doesn't work to say "I need to quit coffee", you say "How do I enjoy water more? What kinds of juices do I like?"
Instead of saying, "in 2019 I want fewer symptoms", you become the person who is learning meditation because you like the meditation you're doing, and it lowers stress.
You become the person who doesn't allow negative people and gossip into your inner circle because it's in opposition to your healing. It's just who you are.
Ask yourself, who do I have to be to make it unavoidable to achieving my resolutions?
